How do you become a member of the New York Bar?
The New York State Bar requires graduation from an ABA-accredited law school in order to become a member. Passing the LSAT, or Law School Admission Test, a half-day standardized test given quarterly at testing centers in New York and elsewhere, is the first step in this process.

Is DC Bar membership mandatory?
About D.C. Bar Attorneys must be licensed by the D.C. Bar to practice law in the District of Columbia. Lawyers admitted to practice in D.C. must register and pay dues to the D.C. Bar.
Does D.C. have CLE requirement?
The District of Columbia Bar does not have mandatory or minimum continuing legal education requirements, although its members are encouraged to engage in such continuing legal education as is necessary to maintain their competence to practice law. See D.C. Rules of Professional Conduct.
